Earwax removal/Micro suction
Earwax is normal; it is produced by glands inside the ear and provides lubrication and protection to the lining of the ear canal. Without earwax, the skin inside your ear would become dry and sore.
Micro suction is a very well tolerated by most people and provides fast and effective results. We take pictures of the inside of your ear before and after the procedure so you can see the results for yourself.
The outer third of the ear canal is self-cleaning and wax and dead skin cells migrate towards the opening of the ear where they fall out or are washed away. However if wax or debris gets into the deeper parts of the ear it can become trapped. This is often a result of the use of cotton buds where the user accidently pushes wax in to the deep part of the canal where it builds up over time. It can also be a problem for hearing aid users because much of the time the ear is blocked so the wax can not escape. It is also possible to push wax into the deep part of the ear by insertion of hearing aids.
If wax becomes impacted in the ear it can lead to symptoms such as:
- Discomfort or a feeling of fullness
- Hearing loss
- Tinnitus
- Itching
It can be particularly problematic for hearing aid user leading to reduced performance, damage to hearing aids and feedback.
Ear syringing
Ear syringing involves using a pressurised flow of water to remove the build-up of earwax. It can be safe and effective procedure when carried out by an experienced clinician. However complication can arise including balance disturbance, pain and perforation of the eardrum. We do not offer ear syringing.
Micro suction earwax removal
This involves using a small sterile suction device to remove earwax under magnification. The suction provided is very gentle and the technique means that the ear canal can be viewed throughout the whole procedure which makes it safer and more comfortable. It is quick, safe and painless, and doesn’t involve putting liquid into your ear.
